Children of Men Review

Children of Men by P. D. JamesChildren of Men review by David Edwards

I was unsure about this book as a dystopian future novel because P. D. James usually writes mysteries.  I was pleasantly surprised by how well written it was.  Like many I saw the movie first and I really Enjoyed it.  So I figured I would give the novel a try.

The main character Theo seems to definitely have a thing about how he views the world around him.  His view as a historian and a depressed parent is really well done.  Julian's character was interesting as well in the fact of who she chooses to be the father of the child.   This may surprise you.  The interaction between the two main characters is a treat to see from the beginning.  And lets not forget Xan the Warden of England.

This novel takes place in future England where the men of the world can no longer have children.  Its as if suddenly there is no more human race on the horizon.  I can make some comparison to 1984 and they way peoples freedoms are taken away with out anyone realising what is going on.  Other than that it is a great read and I highly recommend it.
